When selling your home, you want it to look better than new! Having it squeaky clean before possible buyers come in is a must but, did you know that in order to have even more buyers, it’s important to stage your home? But, what is staging and how can we pull it off?
What is Staging
Basically, it means temporarily decorating your home for an open house or showcasing in order to attract customers or possible buyers. Let’s put it this way. Imagine you walk into a house you are thinking of purchasing but see it completely empty. No furniture. No life. Nada. Can you seriously imagine yourself living there? Chances are you won’t unless you are an interior designer with a ton of imagination or a 4th Scott brother. See the importance of being able to stage your home before showing it to the world? (Or at least to your neighbors who will for sure go in and see your home!) So, how can we pull it off and make our L.A. home feel luxurious and expensive?
Tip #1 Don’t Go Crazy On Staging The Whole House!
Did you know that the rooms that hold the most importance for buyers are the living room, master bedroom, and kitchen? So, don’t spend your time and money on staging other rooms and focus more on these specific rooms. You want your potential buyers to walk into their future home, so, help them envision that!
Tip #2 Declutter & Clean!
Yes! Nobody wants to see your hoarding skills or a bunch of toys on the floor! Try to declutter as much as possible and clean, clean, clean! We cannot stress enough how important it is to clean your whole house; from the ceiling to the floor and everything in between! Stage your home equals CLEAN your home as well.
Tip #3 Depersonalize!
Are your walls filled with pictures, personal items, or, does someone at home have an unhealthy cow/rooster obsession? Try to take everything personal down and hide it during the open house. While it’s true that de-personalizing your home makes it a little weird for you, it can be extremely helpful for buyers and their ability to connect with the property.
Tip #4 Furniture!
Make sure there is enough room for everyone to be in the living room, master bedroom, and kitchen! Have too much furniture? Try to get it out of the way. Focus on getting rid of any oversized pieces, damaged pieces, and those that don’t match the rest of the room. This way, the new homeowners can envision themselves in that particular space.
Tip #5 Exterior!
Ever hear the phrase, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Well, forget about that in an open house! The first thing possible buyers will see is its “curb appeal” and if your home’s curb isn’t appealing, you will be living in that house for years! What can you do?
Make sure that your lawn, hedges, trees, and other plants are neatly pruned, and be sure to get rid of any weeds. If you have windows that face the yard, make sure to wash them well and consider adding some nice flowers to brighten up the house a bit. And, if you can, power wash your home’s exterior—this can make it look almost freshly painted but with less effort and expense! Don’t only stage your home interior but also its exterior!
